What is Myopia?
Myopia is a condition that triggers children's eyes to elongate (stretch) and the structure of the eyes to weaken, causing serious eye disease and vision loss. As children grow, their myopia progresses. By the time they are grown up, it's too late to stop myopia progression. MYOPIA CARE
Myopia is not just an inconvenience, it's an eye disease on a global scale. More children are wearing glasses than ever before in history and this trend is continuing at alarming rates.
In 2021 the World Council of Optometry (WCO) passed a resolution that publicly declares support for myopia management as a basic standard of care. If left unchecked, myopia will result in massive amounts of eye disease and vision loss. This can be prevented but the key is to start early. Myopia develops mostly under the age of 25.

Keratoconus, eye injuries, corneal transplants, Lasik complications and other corneal conditions affect a significant portion of the population and these conditions cause vision loss that cannot be corrected with eyeglasses.

Ortho-k is a non-surgical vision correction technology that utilizes precision retainers that are worn only while sleeping. These vision retainers reshape the front surface of your corneas, giving you sharp vision during the daytime without needing glasses or contacts.
This is not a slow, progressive vision therapy or strengthening of the muscles. Ortho-k takes just a few days to achieve the full effect. It's completely safe and reversible. OPTICIAN & ORTHOKERATOLOGIST
Jason Carruthers is a dual licensed Optician & Orthokeratologist with special interests in myopia control and irregular cornea. He has traveled extensively, training and advising practitioners across Canada in specialty contact lenses practice. He has post-graduate training in Lasik co-management, ocular surface disease, dry eye and orthokeratology for myopia control in children.
Born and raised in Windsor Ontario, he attended Kennedy High School and the University of Windsor. He studied Ophthalmic Optics and Ocular Pathology at The School of Opticianry at Georgian College where he was awarded an honours diploma.
Jason lectures frequently on topics related to eye care.
He is also a recognized expert in the field of cosmetic eyelash extension.
